Situated software means software that fits a specific situation. We don't build so-called 'universal solutions' because catering to everyones needs involves different approaches and different outcomes.
Free and open source alternatives which present themselves as "universal solutions" often end up confusing organizational needs and workflows. User interfaces are often inaccessible and complex. These softwares commonly demand high resource usage and become unaffordable and difficult to maintain over time.
Situated software is software that is built from the off-the-shelf building blocks and is designed to meet specific needs. Additionally, the software we build aims to be user-friendly, lightweight and maintainable.

User-friendly: simple, accessible and easy to use. The software should reflect what the people who will use it expect to see. We are not simply talking about the technical functionality but also in terms of language, culture and aesthetics.

Lightweight: software that consumes only the minimum required resources and focuses on doing one thing well. The software does not contain the kitchen sink and is focused on accomplishing specific tasks which complement other workflows and ways of working.

Maintainable: it should be possible to create, run, maintain and change the software with minimal effort. This involves keeping the balancing act of different needs in mind when creating software. What is handy for a software developer might not be useful for a user of the software.
